The Prospect Researcher is responsible for the proactive identification and research (finding relationships, financial data and biographical data) of prospective and current donors to Regis University for the purpose of supporting and advancing the fundraising objectives of the University Relations Office.

Essential Duties:

Database Management/Planning and Implementation:
In consultation with the Director, conducts annual prospect screenings and develops strategies to identify and qualify new prospects through the use of P!N and Benefactor data mining.

Interpret, evaluate and synthesize biographical and financial information on specific individuals, foundations and corporations for fundraising needs, includes analyzing, prioritizing and disseminating results of database screenings.

Import Benefactor updates to P!N database on a monthly basis, and ensure the integrity of the data. Control P!N update features which includes refreshing data and backing up database on a regular basis.

Work closely with the Director of Prospect Research to ensure the accuracy of information entered in the database on donors and donor prospects.

Reactive Prospect Research:
Utilize electronic and printed information resources including Prospect Information Network (P!N), Lexis-Nexis, Dun & Bradstreet, Foundation Center, Prospect Research Online (PRO), NOZA, and other resources to develop carefully researched and concisely-written reports, briefing materials and profiles of existing and prospective donors. Profiles include information on family, ancestry, current business analysis, career history, affiliations, giving history, philanthropic interests, real estate holdings, public company stock holdings, and foundation associations. Information is gathered from a variety of sources including, but not limited to U.S. Securities and Exchange documents, Foundation tax filings, salary surveys, and real property records.

Proactive Prospect Research:
Identify qualified prospects to front-line University Relations staff by creating custom queries and distributing reports on a regular basis. Creates proactive profiles on pre-qualified prospects. Assist in the trip planning process by providing appropriate travel lists of top prospects by area.

Proactively review print and on-line media to identify news on prospects/donors. Produce monthly watch list of articles on prominent prospects. Includes electronic distribution of information to appropriate staff, and updates to the P!N database.

Participate in meetings with fundraisers, and other key Regis University staff to identify prospects by presenting research findings and discussing resources/information.

Collaboration with Fundraisers:
Participate in meetings with fundraisers, and other key Regis University staff to identify prospects. Present research findings, discuss resources/information, and collaborate with University Relations staff to interpret, evaluate and recommend qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship approaches.

Required Experience:
Minimum of two years experience that includes system data quality control, query report writing, and data entry required.
Minimum of one year in development research, library/information sciences, or related field required.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Skills:
Competent database skills required.
Strong on-line research skills required.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Development and/or fundraising experience in higher education setting preferred.
Familiarity with financial information including proxy statements, annual reports, SEC documents and stock holding preferred.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a fast paced environment as well as maintaining strict confidentiality and meeting tight deadlines is essential.
